About the artwork

Fan artwork inspired by the anime series Starzinger, rendered in ink and markers.

Story behind the artwork

This piece revisits the characters and visual language of the 1978 science-fiction anime through traditional line and marker work. For the logo I just totally winged it and things just happened, not sure if I liked it or not but must say the silver-effect came off decent. For the rest, I only used colored markers, colored ink/fineliners, and white and black ink/fineliners, to get the result. Usually I add colored pencils, but I wanted to keep the style of solid colors for this one. This is a referenced drawing from original artwork from the 80s.

The background was something that came up late in the process. The color choice just felt right, and I went with the main color first, added darker and lighter lines using a ruler afterwards. If you look close you can see some places where my ruler smudged some wet color.

The white border and "pop out" of things like weapons, hands, and logo, is a style I enjoy a lot to watch. It reminds me even more of the movies and art from the 80s. All in all this is a truly nostalgic piece for us growing up during this time.
